Mossberg 590

Does anyone have any real world experience with this great looking tactical shotgun? I've read a great deal about it but would like to from one who has actually shot or better yet owned one.

I got one a year-some ago. Shot a few hundred skeet (trap? I forget, it's the clay disc jobees). I have no experience with other shotguns. So what can I say, no problems, it's a nice simple no frills design, makes a nice crisp Hollywood sounding pump/racking sound-- hopefully that sound is all I'll ever need it for- anyone who hears that and doesn't re-think whatever nefarious thing they're doing, well, they win the Darwin award, and I'll even let'em keep the buckshot.

I understand that it has a certain design that makes it easier to clean.

By the way, how nice of you to consider a donatation of valuable metals to a hostile intruder into your home

I couldn't tell you about any ease of cleaning features. I cleaned it once, just followed the manual, it didn't note anything about unique features which make it easier to clean than other shotguns.

Was that you CB who asked about the Springfield XD pistol a couple months ago? That was the other piece I bought last year (9mm), but again it's the only pistol I've had, so I don't have any comparative experience. I just took a leap of faith as to what the gun guys said was good.

Might have been. I post so much crapola on here even the NSA couldn't keep track of it all.

I thinking that I might go for the 590 as a defense weapon. Is the barrel length 18.5"?

Can't say on the 590 but I have a 500A that I've been happy with. Has the home defense barrel and the hunting barrel and I've enjoyed it. When I was practicing on my deer lease last year a couple of the other guys pumped a few rounds through it and liked it. Put something like 200 WalMart 'blue light special' rounds through it (not sure if that makes a difference with shotguns) and didn't have any problems, the only breaks I took for about 50-75 rounds was to reload.

The 590's a great gun, get the marine edition, won't rust. You can trick it out as you like and there's even have a recoil reducing collapseable stock that you can get for it www.knoxx.com

It's a very good shotgun !!

It's what sits behind my bedroom door, loaded with 3" 00Buck.

As to cleaning, dunno....had it probably 8 years, fired few hundred rounds thru it running "shotgun alley" courses some buddies set up when we campout, and honestly, I've never cleaned it. Cleaning is way over rated.....if you have time to clean guns, you have way too much time on your hands.....ahahahahaaa

Gosh, I always felt like I was letting something go to waste by not cleaning.

Tell me more about the "ally." Maybe I can set one up to train on around these parts.

I have a Mossberg Mariner 500. What is difference between that and a 590?? I cannot seem to find a 590 picture anywhere, other then the Mossberg site, which has no picture.
Can anyone help me out? I am very well versed in firearms, as many here are, but the whole 590 talk has me mystified! Thanks!

I have the Remington 870 with that barrel. Good size for its pourpose. I like the Mossberge safety better than the Remington.

Funny how they like to stand behind doors. I guess its in their nature.
